Introducing a new performance series designed to promote local artists

Posted by miannuzzi on July 26, 2018

Included in The Cabaret’s line-up of August shows is In Character – an original cabaret written and performed by Indianapolis theatre icons Brent Marty and Claire Wilcher on Saturday, August 4. Attendees should expect an evening of witty banter and powerful vocals, as the duo puts their own spin on retro hits and personal favorites.

Those familiar with Indianapolis’ performing arts scene will recognize Marty from his work with several local organizations as a director, musical director, performer, instructor, and accompanist. He currently serves as Director of Music and Education for Booth Tarkington Civic Theatre and was named a Creative Arts Renewal Fellow by the Arts Council of Indianapolis

Wilcher won three Encore Awards for her performances with various theater companies, and was featured in Indy Star Storytellers. She has performed with ComedySportz and Three Dollar Bill Comedy Company, occasionally filling in as an on-air host for the Smiley Morning Show on WZPL.

The show will be the first in The Cabaret’s Incubator Series, which features cabarets created by talented, local performers. After the show, artists will participate in a Q&A with the audience about their creative process. A seasoned cabaret veteran herself, The Cabaret’s Artistic Director & CEO Shannon Forsell will provide guidance to the performers.

"The intimate and conversational style of cabaret is what sets it apart from other musical performances,” said Forsell. “We’re thrilled that the artists we host at The Cabaret has inspired people in Indy to create their own shows.”

Show Time: Saturday, August 4, 2018, 8 pm
