July 23, 2018 (Indianapolis, IN) – After the inaugural season drew sold-out crowds for nearly every show, the soirée in The Cabaret’s chic new home continues. The Fall/Winter season features an eclectic mix of genres and styles that reflect the unique breadth of the cabaret art form.
Fashion designer Isaac Mizrahi will bring his irreverent jazz cabaret, featuring a six-piece band and political satire, to Indianapolis. Headlining this year’s Annual Fundraiser Gala is Swedish musical sensation and multi-instrumentalist, Gunhild Carling. Her extraordinary talent and vaudevillian stunts such as tap dancing, juggling and playing three trumpets at once, have launched her into international stardom, including appearances on Scott Bradlee’s Post Modern Jukebox.
Broadway will meet cabaret with a line-up of award-winning stars. Tony Nominees Stephanie J. Block and Kate Baldwin will take a weekend off their roles in The Cher Show and Hello Dolly to delight audiences in Indy. Shoshana Bean (Hairspray, Wicked), Betsy Wolfe (Waitress, Mystery of Edwin Drood) and Norm Lewis (Once on This Island, Les Misérables) will return by popular demand.
“Before we moved into our own venue, we were limited in the number of shows we could have. Now, we can bring back fan-favorites while still introducing fresh, new faces,” said Shannon Forsell, artistic director and CEO.
While the artists vary, guests at every show will enjoy an intimate, elegant evening of music and storytelling, accompanied by a full dinner service, beer, wine and craft cocktails provided by The Jazz Kitchen.
“We’re grateful the community has embraced cabaret so enthusiastically,” Forsell said. “We look forward to showing off our world-class venue and providing a unique and memorable experience to both new and long-time guests.”

STEPHANIE J. BLOCK: The Pros & Cons-cert

Stephanie J. Block has established herself as one of the most relevant and versatile voices in contemporary musical theatre. Making her Broadway debut playing Liza Minnelli in 2003’s The Boy From Oz, and fresh off her second Tony nomination for her role in Lincoln Center Theater’s Falsettos, Block has a special talent for showstoppers. She brings her immense voice and bold charisma to The Cabaret for an intimate evening. In addition to her Tony-nominated performances in Falsettos and The Mystery of Edwin Drood, she’s also starred on Broadway in Wicked, Anything Goes, 9 to 5: The Musical and Pirate Queen. Block recently performed her solo show as a part of Live From Lincoln Center Presents – Stars in Concert, which was televised nationwide on PBS.
SHOSHANA BEAN: Spectrum Soulful Standards

Acclaimed singer, songwriter and Broadway star, Shoshana Bean, will wow with powerfully heartfelt vocals and a fresh take on big band, jazz and soul. After making her Broadway debut in the original cast of Hairspray before taking over for Idina Menzel as Elphaba in Wicked, Bean has gone on to record four chart-topping albums and perform all over the world with artists such as Brian McKnight, Postmodern Jukebox and Michael Jackson. Inspired largely by Frank Sinatra, Aretha Franklin and Barbra Streisand, Bean weaves together haunting originals, new workings of contemporary hits and beloved classics to create a sound that is uniquely her own.

Fashion designer, Project Runway: All Stars judge and media icon, Isaac Mizrahi brings his irreverent show, Does This Song Make Me Look Fat? to The Cabaret. Praised as “a founding father of a genre that fuses performance art, music and stand-up comedy,” The New York Times hails the show as “raucously funny.” Mizrahi will delight you with a collection of standards and pop songs, from Cole Porter and Charles Aznavour to Blondie and Bob Dylan. He’ll be backed by a six-piece band led by jazz sensation Ben Waltzer. While he may have played two sold-out runs at famed jazz club, Café Carlyle, don’t expect a refined evening of standards. He will share irreverent stories and observations about life and promises to distribute hand-me-down swag from his party-going career to lucky audience members.
BETSY WOLFE: All Bets Are Off

Fresh off of her shift in Waitress on Broadway, and critically acclaimed for her performances in The Last Five Years and Falsettos, Betsy Wolfe has established herself as one of musical theatre’s most keenly intelligent performers. Beyond Broadway, she has performed in sold-out concerts at Carnegie Hall and in two operas at The Met. And now, Wolfe is doing a cabaret about the magical, mystical miracle and existential anxiety of show business—but funny! Armed with a high belt and a questionable affinity for casinos, she takes the audience on a romp from “cow pasture” California to “bright-lights-big-city” New York to conquer Broadway. With the help of songs by Stephen Sondheim, Jason Robert Brown and Peter, Paul, and Mary, she has a lot to talk about. And sing about. From the woman who was described by her doorman as “very talented, but please keep it down,” and by The New York Times as “having a soaring soprano… and a rock collection,” Wolfe presents her first cabaret show, All Bets Are Off.

Swedish musical sensation and internationally acclaimed superstar, Guhild Carling, is a can’t-miss event! She sings, tap dances, juggles and plays virtually every instrument around, often playing three trumpets at the same time…is there anything she can’t do? With heavy influences from Bix and Louie Armstrong as well as Billie Holiday, Carling is a jazz artist of the old breed, combining extraordinary skills with vaudeville stunts. She has been featured on Scott Bradlee’s Post Modern Jukebox putting a ‘20s on the ‘80s tunes “Material Girl,” “Never Gonna Give You Up” and “Happy.” A recent video of her playing bagpipes went viral with more than 15 million views.

Join two-time Tony Award nominee Kate Baldwin (Hello Dolly, Big Fish, Giant, John & Jen, Finian’s Rainbow, Songbird) in an evening of songs and stories, as she candidly and comically deconstructs the façade of being a Broadway star, mother and Midwest ingénue turned New Jersey suburbanite. Featuring an eclectic mix of Broadway, standards, indie pop, folk and country melodies from such artists as Fiona Apple, Ingrid Michaelson and Elvis Costello, Baldwin promises to pull no punches in a show that is both unexpected and unencumbered. With musical direction by Kris Kukul (Songbird), you’ll discover another side of the artist The New York Times hails as “the redheaded firecracker” who delivers “sophistication and sincerity,” with what Variety calls “an agreeably feisty manner.”
